At just under 25 minutes, punk band Pinhead Circus don’t provide
a lot of time to make an impression. The trio from Golden,
Colorado, have thrown together some impressive chops, interesting
guitar rhythms and a strong sense of songwriting to make this an
excellent short disc. Peppering his vocals with profanity,
vocalist/guitarist Scooter makes a strong impression with the disc
opener “Say Goodnight.”
“Asking For A Beating,” “Three Feet Down,” and “Clear A Path”
are among the stellar tracks on this disc. “Beating” describes
dealing with decisions in the past that are later regretted as
Scooter sings, “I close my eyes/ that’s when regret sets in/ your
words are drowning me like quicksand.” “Down” also focuses on lost
relationships as the song ends with the lyrics “I lost my voice
talking to myself/ and a picture of you.” “Path” ends with some
great multi-part harmonies.
The band also adapts Rick Springfield’s “I’ve Done Everything
For You” into the punk genre by speeding up the tempo. The band
elevates their energy with this song. The guitar sounds tighter and
the drumming seems more adventurous and exciting, with more cymbal
crashes and snare fills.
Pinhead Circus offer a short, yet impressive, excursion into
some high-energy punk rock. While short discs usually leave the
listener craving for more, PC satisfy the ears and creates the urge
to look for the new Rick Springfield album.
